About CVEF

Citizen Voices Empowerment Foundation (CVEF) is a youth-led nonprofit
civic organization committed to amplifying the voices of Nigerians, advancing
social and economic justice, and empowering communities to drive inclusive and
accountable governance. CVEF was founded in response to the growing need for
platforms that bridge the gap between citizens and public institutions,
particularly in matters of democratic participation, human rights, and national
development.
To create inclusive civic spaces where citizens—especially youth, women, and marginalized communities—can freely express themselves, engage in public discourse, and participate meaningfully in governance and policy-shaping processes.
A Nigeria where every citizen can speak, be empowered, act, and contribute freely and safely toward building a just, accountable, and inclusive society.
Core
Activities
- Civic Media & Advocacy: Through its flagship initiative Citizen Voices
Nigeria (CVN), CVEF publishes citizen-generated content, supports
digital storytelling, and runs media campaigns to highlight social issues
and push for systemic reforms.
- Civic Education & Legal Awareness: CVEF conducts workshops, webinars, and publications to
educate citizens on their constitutional rights, the Freedom of
Information Act (2011), the Cybercrime Act (2015), and other relevant
frameworks.
- Community Engagement:
The Foundation facilitates dialogue between citizens and government
actors, mobilizes communities around public interest issues, and supports
grassroots activism. Example the Citizen Voices Advocacy Network (CVAN)
- Policy Advisory:
CVEF researches pressing socio-political issues and offers policy
recommendations to relevant institutions for inclusive governance.
Example, the Amendment of the JAMB Act, 1978 by the National Assembly.
- Protection & Support: We offer legal protection and support to citizen
journalists, advocates, and whistleblowers, ensuring they can speak truth
to power without fear.
Guiding
Frameworks
Our work is informed and protected by:
- = Chapter Four of the Nigerian Constitution (Fundamental
Human Rights)
- = The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2011
- = Cybercrime Act, 2015
- = African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights
- = Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Through legal frameworks, dialogues, awareness campaigns, policy advocacy, leadership development, and grassroots empowerment, we strive to create an inclusive society where every citizen can speak, be heard, and take part in building a more just, equitable, and sustainable future for Nigeria.

Team, Volunteers, Partners & Reach
